KEARNEY, Neb. (WOWT) – This day in history, in 1998, was a wild day in Kearney — a little bit like the Wild West.
A Pony Express rider delivered a letter from President Clinton to a crowd of spectators in Nebraska, congratulating them on what was about to happen: a groundbreaking for a new construction project over Interstate 80.
Former Gov. Frank Morrison was there — he was instrumental in developing the project.
The goal was to build the Great Platte River Road Monument, also known as the Kearney arch, in two years — and they did it!
