ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — History rolled back into St. Joseph this weekend as the Pony Express Museum’s Circle the Wagons event gave visitors a chance to step into the Old West through a display of its historic wagon and era-specific accoutrements.
The event featured a display of the museum’s newly completed mid-1800s wagon, complete with a cover and props to showcase what life was like for travelers during the Westward Expansion. Visitors could see time accurate items such as camp fire pots, quilts, pitchforks, barrels, coffee pots, coffee grinders, seed bags, lanterns and more.
This Circle the Wagons event centered around America 250. Joan Irwin had a collection of items from the mid-1800s as well as the United States’ Bicentennial 50 years ago in 1976.
Another Circle the Wagons event is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 11. Marek’s Catering and Delicatessen will cater a lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Other activities scheduled and items available include musical performances every 30 minutes, chess, cards, checkers, root beer and sarsaparilla.
